Summary: Could two people, who were so close, find their way back to who they used to be?

Rectifying Mistakes
“You seem different,” Dee commented carefully. She unbuttoned her military jacket and after removing it, hung it up in her locker. She caught a glimpse of the empty locker and pressed her hand against the cold surface of the door. She remembered when times seemed simpler. She looked over to Gaeta, offering a small smile.
“How so?” he responded. Though he was exhausted, he had not been able to find comfort even in sleep. He sat on the edge of his bunk, pinching the bridge of his nose.
She shrugged her shoulders as she closed her locker and spun around to face him. “Like you’ve seen better days,” she answered.
“Haven’t we all though?” He looked up at his old friend who used to be his rock through the darkest of times, in which he had trusted her immensely. Things had changed during the course of well over a year.
Relocation, reassignments, and marriage had come between them.
“We have,” she whispered knowingly. Dee walked over to Gaeta, standing in front of him she reached out, touching his cheek gently.
Had it all changed?
Could two people, who were so close, find their way back to who they used to be?
Could two people cross the divide, even for just a moment…?
Gaeta lowered his eyes, sighing. “Too many mistakes,” he muttered.
She placed her hand beneath his chin and lifted his face up, their eyes meeting. “And now it’s time to pick up the pieces of those mistakes,” she told him gently.
A ghost of a smile crossed his features. “Easier said than done.”
“We’ve all made mistakes. Some small, some grave…” she said regretfully, “but the beauty of mistakes is we can learn from them, we can change from them.”
“Not always,” he said quietly.
“Perhaps not, but sometimes we can.”
“How can you be so sure?” he asked. Gaeta rose to his feet, clasping her hand in his, he closed the distance between them.
Dee shrugged again, smiling at Gaeta. “I can’t be but that’s what hope is – not really knowing but believing it could be?”
He sighed as she moved even closer, her hand slipping around the nape of his neck.
“What are you-”
Her response was in her next move as she pulled him closer, brushing her lips against his. “What about…?” he murmured against her soft lips.
“A mistake that I plan on putting right…” she whispered before pressing her lips against his, kissing him deeply.

~ very poignant. Something a lot of the characters on the show might well be asking in the rest of the season.

I was trying to write the other night and Gaeta kept popping into my head (I've been obsessing over him lately, 'cause of his character development on the show, I'm loving it. :)) and this little snipet of a scene just popped in my head, so I went ahead and wrote it. :)
I love that bit too and totally see it applying to a lot of the characters as well. :)

Even though I doubt we'll be seeing a Dee/Gaeta ship anytime soon, it would be nice for Gaeta to have someone he could rely on. I hope at least Dualla will still talk to him after all this New Caprica mess. He really needs a friend right now.
